On December 20, 2004, the School of Law held a retirement party in honor of Mary Penn. "Miss Penn", who has been with the University for 30 years, has also worked at the School of Education, Residence Halls, and University Admissions. Fortunately, In 1989, Michael Goodnight had the good sense to bring her to the School of Law.
Mary has been the heart of every office she has worked in, and as a member of the Dean of Students staff, she was beloved by every student who entered that office. In turn, it was clear that Mary loved working with the students and at the University. Whether students needed a friendly ear, questions answered, or a needle and thread for a quick repair – Mary was always there to assist. Never idle, she graciously lent a helping hand to any department in need, and rarely missed seeing her "children" off at graduation.
Mary is the proud biological mother of one son, and a surrogate mother to all others who cross her path. She considers the University her extended family and says she is proud and grateful for having the opportunity to be a part of this wonderful institution.
Mary will continue to work on a part-time basis until she can wean herself from us and us from her. We love you Mary and wish you well always.
